You can’t find this on Broadway!
The Commodore Grille started as a songwriter venue in the early 80s, almost the same time as the famous Bluebird where they often competed for talent each night.
Steven Farmer, songwriter host for Commodore Grille in the 90s, convinced Vince Gill to play one night in exchange for a slice of one of their popular cheesecakes.
Previous staff shared many well-known artists who have stayed and played in the hotel over the years from Bob Dylan, Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, Britney Spears, KISS, Prince, and so many more!
Today, two prominent agents host the Songwriter Nights:
"Debi Champion's Songwriter Nights".
"Nashville Songwriter's Showcase with Jimmy and Anna-Lisa"
It is the “home” of 1994 Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee Jerry Foster; you can find his private parking spot right in front of the venue!
Prior to its sports bar days, the Grille was known as Ivories Piano Lounge. Once upon a time in its history, the Grille was home to The Commodore Club. Vanderbilt fans and alumni alike would gather around a large boat located in the center of the room, to discuss sporting events and scholarly accomplishments.
From 2001 to 2008, The Commodore Grille was known as the Commodore Sports Bar & Grille, and it was home to over 20 big-screen TVs. During this period, Songwriter’s Night began and has since evolved into a nightly Songwriter Round & Open Mic Night.
